Xdinary Heroes put the band in focus
Changing writing teams meet a recurring instrumental lineup on IMPULSE. The album’s session credits offer a practical route into all seven tracks.
Start With “Obsessed with Youth”
JYP describes the title track as EDM rock that moves from dreamlike synth and emotive vocals toward stronger guitar and electronic layers. Use that description as a label-supplied guide, then listen for your own points of contrast.
IMPULSE changes writers and arrangers as it moves, but its published session credits keep returning to the same instrumental spine. Across all seven tracks, Gaon and Jun Han are credited on electric guitar, Jooyeon on bass, and Jungsu and O.de on keyboards.
That does not tell us how much of each instrument is audible, how the recording session unfolded or what the group will play live. It does give listeners something concrete: a recurring member lineup running through four different arranging routes.
One album, four arranging routes
The credits divide the track list into clear working groups. Lee Woo-min “collapsedone” arranges the title track, “u and me in arguments” and “You Right There.” Zakk Cervini, Dan Lancaster and Oliver Sykes write, compose and arrange “Give Up The Ghost.” Lov3notdxxd arranges “Slashhh!” and “Love in dystopia.” ESUM arranges the closer, “Breathe in, Breathe out.”
Tracks 1, 4 and 5
Three separate points in the running order share one arranger and recurring member performance credits.
Track 2
The sole track whose lyric and composition fields do not list Xdinary Heroes, while the session credits still name the member instrumentalists.
Tracks 3 and 6
A paired arrangement route with Xdinary Heroes credited in composition on both songs.
Track 7
A separate closer with Gaon additionally credited on acoustic guitar.
The useful contrast is not “band” versus “production.” It is how the same credited instrumental core moves through changing production teams.
Why “Give Up The Ghost” is the hinge
“Give Up The Ghost” creates the sharpest credit contrast. Cervini, Lancaster, Sykes and Alex Karlsson are listed in the lyric field; Cervini, Lancaster and Sykes receive composition and arrangement credit. Xdinary Heroes do not appear in those writing fields, but the session section still credits Gaon and Jun Han on electric guitar, Jooyeon on bass, and Jungsu and O.de on keyboards.
That distinction is easy to flatten in release coverage. Songwriting credits and performance credits answer different questions. On this track, reading both sections keeps the outside writing team and the group’s documented instrumental roles visible at the same time.
The closer adds one detail
On “Breathe in, Breathe out,” ESUM handles the arrangement, while ESUM and Xdinary Heroes share composition credit. The session list adds acoustic guitar by Gaon alongside the electric-guitar, bass and keyboard pattern repeated across the album. It is a small line in the credits, but it gives the final track a specific detail to listen for.
This is a credits-led listening guide, not a hands-on review or a report from the recording sessions. Musical descriptions attributed to JYP come from official album information. The comparison of credit patterns is KPOP MAGAZINE’s analysis of the published data.
Read this way, IMPULSE is not one production system repeated seven times. It is a compact record in which several writing and arranging teams meet the same recurring member instrumentation—and the credits make that structure visible before any claim about what happened inside the studio.
