Written and composed by Roy Kim, “BOM BOM BOM” introduces the acoustic side of his catalogue. The official release notes highlight guitar, double bass and brushed drums, with whistling adding another melodic colour. Start here for the springtime setting and compact instrumentation, then compare that warmth with the more conflicted love songs that follow.

Roy Kim wrote and composed this pop ballad about a relationship its narrator cannot bring himself to leave. Kang Hwa-seong’s arrangement includes guitar by Hong Jun-ho, bass by Choi Hoon and backing vocals by Cho Kyu-chan. The official video places Roy in a quiet landscape outside New York, extending the song’s theme of distance.

Released later in the same year, “The Hardest Part” makes a useful companion to “Only Then.” The official notes describe a restrained opening that gives way to a more exposed vocal, with Kwon Young-chan handling the arrangement. In this selection, the two songs trace the difficult move from postponing a goodbye to trying to say it.

This self-written single turns toward the familiarity that remains after the first excitement of a relationship. Its release notes frame growing and changing together as part of love, rather than evidence that love has faded. Kang Hwa-seong returns as arranger, with Roy’s melody supported by guitar, bass, keyboards and Cho Kyu-chan’s backing vocals.
